The ExpresS-Lift is Dr. Langdon's innovation based on the increasingly popular S-Lift face-lift. This is a minimum-incision face-lift (the skin incision is relatively short compared to traditional face-lifts), and the resulting scar is inconspicuous (usually it is practically invisible--see the photo below). The most remarkable feature of the ExpresS-Lift is the extremely rapid recovery, with very little bruising and swelling. The secret of the procedure is the very effective use of local anesthesia. Much as in tumescent liposuction, the local anesthetic affords the following advantages: the procedure is painless, there is very little bleeding, and subsequently very little bruising and swelling (thus a very rapid recovery).

Unlike other "mini-facelifts" that only tighten the skin, the ExpresS-Lift is a real face-lift, with tightening of the connective tissue layer below the skin (this is called the "Superficial Musculo-Aponeurotic System" or SMAS). Because of the tightening of the SMAS, it is also necessary to remove some of the skin just in front of and below the ear. Another great feature of the ExpresS-Lift is that the skin removal is carefully planned so that the skin is under no tension after it is stitched together at the end of the procedure. This minimizes (virtually eliminates) visible scarring.
